Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Peel, core, and slice 3-4 large apples into thin pieces and toss with a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar.
  2. Cream together ½ cup of softened butter, 1 cup brown sugar, and 1 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Incorporate 2 eggs one at a time, then gradually add 1 ½ cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  3. Gently fold the prepared apple slices into the cake batter.
  4. Mix together ½ cup flour and ½ cup brown sugar, then cut in ¼ cup cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs for the crumb topping.
  5. Pour the apple-infused batter into a greased 9-inch square baking pan and sprinkle the crumb topping over it. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Prepare the drizzle by combining ½ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup butter, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and ¼ cup cream in a saucepan over medium heat until smooth and slightly thickened.
