Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add diced onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
- Increase heat to medium-high and add 1 pound of ground beef. Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and 1 tablespoon of taco seasoning, browning for 5-7 minutes until no pink remains.
- Lower heat to medium and stir in 2 tablespoons of tomato paste and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Pour in 1 cup of half and half and 1 cup of tomato sauce, mix well and cook until thickened for about 5-10 minutes.
- Mix in 1 cup of shredded cheese until melted. Pour beef mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and arrange frozen tater tots on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until tater tots are golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
- Remove from oven, garnish with sour cream, cherry tomatoes, and green onions. Serve hot.
