Step-by-Step Instructions for Valentine’s Day Puppy Chow
  1. Split 6 cups of Chex cereal into two medium bowls, placing 3 cups in each bowl.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 3/4 cup of strawberry cake mix with 3/4 cup of powdered sugar and whisk until well blended.
  3. Melt 1 cup of red candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 30-second intervals until smooth.
  4. Pour the melted red candy over one bowl of Chex cereal and stir to coat evenly.
  5. Transfer the coated cereal into a gallon zip lock bag with 3/4 cup of the cake mixture, seal tightly, and shake vigorously.
  6. Spread the Puppy Chow onto parchment paper to cool for about 10-15 minutes.
  7. Melt 1 cup of white candy melts following the same method as the red candy.
  8. Pour the melted white candy over the second bowl of Chex cereal and stir gently to coat.
  9. Place the white coated cereal in another zip lock bag with the remaining cake mixture. Seal, shake, and spread on parchment paper to cool.
  10. Once both mixtures have cooled, combine them in a large bowl with 1 cup of Valentine M&M's and 2 tablespoons of sprinkles.
  11. Gently mix all ingredients to combine, then serve in bowls or bag it for sharing.
