Ingredients

For the Shrimp
  • 1 lb Large Argentine Prawns Use for their firm texture and delicious flavor.
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce Light soy sauce is recommended for a milder taste.
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch Helps coat the shrimp, keeping them tender during frying.
For the Sauce
  • 3-4 cloves Garlic Freshly minced garlic yields the best aromatic flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Grated ginger or ginger paste adds warmth.
  • 4 tbsp Honey Provides the sweet stickiness that defines the honey garlic shrimp.
  • 1/4 tsp Chili Flakes Adjust for a spicy kick based on your preference.
For Cooking
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil Any neutral oil works well for frying the shrimp.
For Garnish
  • 2 tbsp Green Onions Use for a fresh and colorful finish.

Equipment

  • Non-Stick Frying Pan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by rinsing the large Argentine prawns under cold water, then pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together light soy sauce and cornstarch until fully combined. Toss the shrimp in the mixture, ensuring they are well-coated, and set aside for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add 3-4 cloves of freshly minced garlic and 1 tablespoon of grated ginger. Sauté for 30 seconds, stirring frequently.
  4. Add the coated shrimp to the pan in a single layer. Cook for 1-2 minutes on one side until they turn pink and opaque, then flip them to the other side and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes.
  5. Once the shrimp are perfectly cooked, pour 4 tablespoons of honey over them in the pan. Toss gently until they are evenly coated and allow it to simmer for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  6. Remove the pan from heat and transfer the honey garlic shrimp to a serving dish. Garnish generously with finely chopped green onions.
