Step-by-Step Instructions for Easy Koulouri (Simit)
  1. In a mixer bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 teaspoons of instant dry yeast. Mix dry ingredients well, then add 3 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 cup of lukewarm water (around 95°F). Use a dough hook to knead on low speed for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  2. Transfer your kneaded dough onto a lightly greased surface and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a log approximately 9-10 inches long and bring the ends together to form a ring.
  3. Cover the shaped rings with a clean kitchen towel and allow them to rest in a warm location for about 30 minutes.
  4. In a shallow bowl, mix ¼ cup of warm water with 2 tablespoons of honey or sugar until dissolved. On a separate plate, spread out about ½ cup of sesame seeds.
  5. Once the dough rings have rested, dip each one into the honey water, ensuring all surfaces are moistened. Immediately roll each ring in the sesame seeds, pressing gently to adhere an even coating.
  6. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) for convection or 425°F (220°C) for conventional. Once preheated, place the sesame-coated rings in the oven and bake for approximately 20 minutes.
  7. After baking, let the Sesame Bread Rings cool on the pan for about 5 minutes.
