  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 3 pieces cinnamon sticks fresh for best taste
  • 2 inches fresh ginger sliced
  • 1 tablespoon anise seeds
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg optional
For Sweetening
  • 0.5 to 1 cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
For the Topping
  • 1 cup chopped nuts walnuts, pistachios, or almonds

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, pour in your filtered water and add the cinnamon sticks, sliced fresh ginger, anise seeds, and nutmeg. Place the saucepan over high heat and bring to a vigorous boil, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and allow to simmer gently for 1 to 1½ hours.
  3. Shortly before serving, uncover and add granulated sugar to the tea. Whisk until sugar dissolves.
  4. Remove from heat and strain the mixture using a fine mesh sieve, discarding the solids.
  5. To serve, place chopped nuts in teacups and pour hot strained tea over them. Enjoy!
