  • 1 pound lean ground beef 93/7 or 96/4 works best
  • 1 packet mild taco seasoning substitute with your preferred spice blend
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar adds sweetness
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened for easy mixing
  • 1/2 cup sour cream use full-fat for creaminess
  • 1/2 cup salsa any variety you love
  • 1 cup shredded cheese freshly shredded works best
For the Shells
  • 8 pieces flour tortillas fajita-sized (about 6 inches)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet, cook 1 pound of lean ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning, 1 tablespoon of light brown sugar, 4 ounces of softened cream cheese, ½ cup of sour cream, and ½ cup of salsa until well combined.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of shredded cheese. Allow the residual heat to melt the cheese.
  5. Microwave tortillas for about 1 minute to soften them. Spoon beef mixture down the center and roll tightly.
  6. Place flautas seam-side down on the baking sheet, spray with cooking spray, and sprinkle with salt.
  7. Bake for approximately 15 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving with dipping sauces.
