Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the neutral oil, agave or maple syrup, and mustard. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Prepare Tofu: Drain and press the tofu to remove moisture, then cut into 1-inch strips.
  3. Make the Batter: Combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and optional paprika. Gradually whisk in water until smooth.
  4. Coat Tofu: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Dip each tofu strip into the batter, then roll in panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Bake: Place the coated tofu on a baking sheet and bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping halfway.
  6. Final Coat: Brush or spoon the ‘honey’ mustard sauce over the tenders and bake for an additional 5-8 minutes.
