Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar granulated sugar can work if ground finely
  • 2 tbsp milk any type, dairy or plant-based
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract almond extract can be used
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar can use all granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon can experiment with nutmeg
For the French Toast Batter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk alternatives like almond or oat milk work too
  • 1 tbsp honey agave syrup is a substitute
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp grated orange zest optional
For the French Toast
  • 4 slices challah bread thick-sliced
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter can substitute with coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil can substitute with high smoke point olive oil

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, ½ cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  3. Whisk together 4 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, the zest of 1 orange (if using), 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon of honey, and a pinch of kosher salt.
  4. Spread cream cheese filling between slices of challah bread, pressing edges to seal.
  5. Dip each stuffed slice into the egg batter, allowing to soak for 1-2 minutes on each side.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium heat with 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Cook each soaked slice for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Dredge cooked French toast in the cinnamon sugar mixture immediately after cooking.
  8. Serve warm or keep in the preheated oven while finishing cooking other slices.
