Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Italian Beef
  1. Slice the yellow onion and place it evenly in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the beef and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side.
  3. Place the browned beef chuck roast on top of the onions in your slow cooker.
  4. Pour beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the beef.
  5. Combine Italian seasoning, thyme, oregano, garlic powder, and onion powder. Sprinkle over the beef.
  6. Chop the red bell pepper and sprinkle with the pepperoncini over the top of the beef.
  7. Cover and set slow cooker to cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours.
  8. Remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred with two forks.
  9. Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker for an additional 20 minutes on high.
  10. Split hoagie rolls and place them cut side up on a baking sheet. Broil for about 2 minutes.
  11. Fill each toasted roll with shredded Italian Beef and top with provolone cheese.
