Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Italian Beef
- Slice the yellow onion and place it evenly in the bottom of your slow cooker.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the beef and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Place the browned beef chuck roast on top of the onions in your slow cooker.
- Pour beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the beef.
- Combine Italian seasoning, thyme, oregano, garlic powder, and onion powder. Sprinkle over the beef.
- Chop the red bell pepper and sprinkle with the pepperoncini over the top of the beef.
- Cover and set slow cooker to cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours.
- Remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred with two forks.
- Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker for an additional 20 minutes on high.
- Split hoagie rolls and place them cut side up on a baking sheet. Broil for about 2 minutes.
